Nexum MUPS 40 Tablet contains Esomeprazole 40 mg formulated using Multiple Unit Pellet System (MUPS) technology. This system consists of enteric-coated pellets that protect the active ingredient from degradation in the stomach and enable controlled release in the intestine, ensuring optimal therapeutic effectiveness.
It is indicated for the management of acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and peptic ulcer disease. The 40 mg strength is typically recommended in patients requiring more intensive acid suppression or in moderate to severe conditions.
The medication works by selectively inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells, thereby significantly reducing gastric acid secretion. It provides effective relief from symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric discomfort, while promoting mucosal healing.
For optimal results, it should be taken 30–60 minutes before meals, usually once daily, or as directed by a registered physician. The tablet should not be crushed or chewed to maintain its modified-release properties.
